Group Driven Development at SparkPost

[ad_1]

April 2015 was an energizing time to be a designer at SparkPost. Our administration had recently propelled. We were seeing the aftereffects of all the diligent work and commitment from  You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.   quarters spent building our usefulness, framework, and groups.

Quick forward to late February 2016. SparkPost had been for the most part accessible for ten months. Our people group was developing consistently. We kept on making refinements to our administration and foundation. We didn't have any acquaintance with it at the time, yet MailChimp had quite recently reported some essential changes to Mandrill that would change the way we cooperate with our group and how we enhance and bolster our item.

In the days taking after the declaration, we'd go ahead to set up our group Slack and overhaul our item and designing procedures to grasp group driven improvement. We utilized the input and encounters to drive our basic leadership procedures to execute on what truly makes our group effective.

A few instruments for criticism from our group exist at SparkPost. I said our group Slack. There, our group has entry to SparkPost colleagues and, all the more essentially, each other. We gain from you through direct cooperation as well as by watching, tuning in, and taking notes. Any colleague take criticism from group Slack and post it specifically to an input direct in our interior Slack. There, our specialists, item supervisors, and administrators have guide access to your remarks.

Bolster tickets and Github issues are another fundamental strategy for comprehension ways we can make our group's lives less demanding. Our bolster group makes an incredible showing with regards to of raising issues inside to our building group and additionally raising issues that are happening over and again and conceptualizing approaches to address. Github issues permit us to see how our customer libraries are being utilized and where we can make upgrades.

Going to meet-ups, gatherings, and hackathons has been a noteworthy wellspring of learning for us as well. We get the opportunity to invest quality energy eye to eye with our group, find out about how you utilize SparkPost and what changes may help you and your business be more fruitful. After every occasion we make an indicate share learnings inside so we can talk about thoughts and issues that emerge amid our discussions with participants.

Gathering this profitable info wouldn't mean much in the event that we didn't follow up on it. In the previous 75% we've followed up on somewhat more than 50 things that were an immediate aftereffect of the data we accumulated from our group. These littler things are what we consider snappy wins – things like upgrading dialect in our UI, enhancing documentation, bug fixes, and minor component enhancements. Here are a few cases:

Moreover, the building, item, and bolster groups meet week by week to talk about client affecting issues, arrangements, and activity things. In the same way as other programming organizations, we additionally have an organized rundown of bigger activities that we work our way through. A few cases of work finished from the previous few quarters include:

Prioritization of new components and upgrades is a consistent work in advance. We do our best to gather the greater part of the immense criticism we get and keep up a harmony between tending to current issues and the arranging and execution of new usefulness and enhancements. Some extra things we've heard our group ask for include:

Ultimately, the most ideal approach to remain fully informed regarding what's new and additionally settles we convey is to join the  announcements direct in our group Slack or watch out for our change log article. We overhaul both each Friday when we convey changes that we need to ensure you think about.

With 2017 almost upon us, we're anticipating executing a portion of the enhancements and components you've let us know are critical to you. Our people group assumes a noteworthy part in the advancement and development of SparkPost. We want to get notification from you, so keep the input coming. What's more, continue pushing us to convey the best administration we can.

Musings on group driven advancement? How do your groups organize and handle criticism? Leave us a remark beneath.

GeekSpeak SL – black swan events. Saturday January 14th at 12pm SLT

For thousands of years people thought that all swans were white.  Then that was changed forever when the first black swan was observed.

Black swan events are unpredicted and unexpected yet have an enormous impact on the world.  Is the history of the world and human society determined mainly by the ordinary and the predictable or is it determined by the outliers, the random and unpredictable events, the black swans.

Wars, the rise of religions, human inventions, changes in human thought; all can be seen as a succession of black swans.  What black swans do you see in history?  And what black swans do you expect in the future?

Does it frighten you to think that the future is unknown and uncontrolled?  Or do you see the theory of black swans as a good explanation for what happens in the world?
Come and predict the unpredictable at GeekSpeak.

To Expect From Your Bulk Email Marketing Software

[ad_1]

It takes a combination of providing a compelling marketing message and delivering it at the right time to convert traffic into sales. There are many other factors that play a role, but the most important is the mindset of your potential customer You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. . Are they just browsing around in research-mode? Maybe they are not actually serious about buying until they get their next paycheck, but will they have forgotten about your site by next week?

Why not bid to re-engage with a user who already has shown some level of interest by coming to your site? Repeat visitors have significantly higher conversion rates than first-time clicks. Additionally, you are able to bid a relatively low price, so the average cost per click is much lower than your regular search campaigns.

If you are worried about annoying users with your remarketing ads and hurting your overall branding efforts, you can easily set parameters for a cap number of impressions per user. For example, if you decide you should stop advertising to a person who has seen your remarketing ad over 25 times and never converted, you can specify this impression limit in the campaign settings.

Implementation
[Image: buy-email-lists-21819162.jpg]

Setting up a remarketing campaign is quite simple, and there are a couple of different ways to do it. You can implement the remarketing code across your website, which will tag users and put them on a list you can call Non-Converting Visitors.Make sure you exclude the remarketing code from being on the “Thank you” page once a transaction has been completed since you do not want to target converting visitors. You do not want converting visitors to be on the same remarketing list as those who did not purchase.

Place Pages

[ad_1]

Place Pages

Note: Place Pages is a Beta feature, which means that parts of Place Pages may change before final release.  We'll keep these instructions up-to-date as development continues.

Place pages allow you to promote your spaces in Second Life through the use of images, videos, and text.  Place page URLs may be easily shared in chat or on a website, allowing people to discover and visit your inworld locations.

Creating a place page

By default, every parcel and region in the Second Life world has a place page derived from information in the parcel's profile. You may edit and embellish a place page for any parcel or region you own, or for group-owned parcels for which you have the Toggle 'Show Place in Search' and set category group ability.  However, nobody can visit a place page unless the parcel's Show Place in Search checkbox is checked in the About Land window. Region place pages are accessible regardless of search settings.

To view and edit your place pages:

  1. Visit the place pages dashboard at: https://places.secondlife.com and log in using your Second Life credentials.

  2. In the upper right of the dashboard, move the mouse over your name and select My Places from the dropdown to view a full list of parcels and regions you own.

  3. Choose a region or parcel and click the Edit link next to that land's listing to begin editing the place page for that land.

  4. Under Details on the Place Page Edit page, fill out the following:

  • Title - The title for the place page.  Typically, this is the name of your land.

  • Tagline - A short, descriptive subtitle, displayed prominently on the "hero" banner at the top of the page.

  • Description - A longer description or profile for the location, displayed below the images on the place page.

  • Under the Optional section, you may provide a YouTube link in order to display a video on your place page.  The Optional section also provides options for you to customize the color of your place page's background and font.

  • Under the Hero Image section, choose an image to be the background of the banner at the top of your place page.  Hero images must be 1900x700 resolution, or else they may be subject to distortion.

  • The Stats section provides statistical information about the land, and cannot be edited in the Place Page Editor.

  • Under Additional Images, you may choose up to three additional images to display on your place page.  The images are shown as a slideshow and periodically cycle if not clicked by a user.  Additional images must be of 852x486 resolution or they may be subject to distortion.

  • Visiting a place page

To visit a place page, simply click a place page URL or paste it into your web browser's address bar.  While viewing a place page, you may learn more about the location, view images and videos, or ultimately visit the location in Second Life by clicking the Visit this location button located on the hero image.

    Sample place pages

Here are a few examples of place pages created for places owned by Linden Lab:

    Hiding a place page

Place pages for land parcels are not visible to other Residents unless the land's Show Place in Search checkbox is checked in the About Land window.  This box is unchecked by default.  You may access the About Land window by visiting the parcel, then choosing World > About land from the top menu bar.

If you wish to hide an entire region's place page, you may check the Block Land Show in Search checkbox in the Region tab of the Region/Estate window.  You may access the Region/Estate window by visiting the region and choosing World > Region/Estate from the top menu bar.

Using a 360 snapshot as a Hero Image

Note: The 360 snapshot feature is still in a very experimental Project Viewer stage, and is subject to drastic change or removal at any time as development continues.

If you have captured a 360 snapshot using the 360 Snapshot Project Viewer, you may upload a captured 360 snapshot in place of your Hero Image:

    1. Capture a 360 snapshot to your computer as described in Taking inworld snapshots.

    2. Go to https://places.secondlife.com/spherical_zips in your web browser and click the New button.  You must be logged into the Second Life website in order to complete this step.

    3. Click the Choose File button and select the captured 360 snapshot (ending in ".zip") from your computer.

    4. Choose one of your places from the Place dropdown.

    5. Press the Update button to upload your 360 snapshot to the selected place page.

An uploaded 360 snapshot replaces the Hero Image for the selected place page, allowing visitors to pan around the image for a full 360 degree view of the place where the image was captured.

How to Customize SL Avatar Nails -- And Why We Need To

    [ad_1]

How to Customize SL Avatar Nails -- And Why We Need To

    SL nail tutorial

Nalates has an in-depth tutorial for creating customized hand and toenails for Second Life avatars -- so in-depth, she gets into the 13 year+ history of SL avatars, a timeline of retrofits and workarounds, as the user community created solutions (and additional complexity) to Linden Lab's avatar forms. For instance:

The basic idea of changing your avatar to fit clothes didn’t go over well and limited sales of Standard Size products. To get past the limited appeal designers created what they called liquid mesh by figuring out how to weight mesh items to hidden parts of the avatar skeleton that somewhat worked with avatar shape settings. The popularity of liquid mesh led the Lab to develop Fitted Mesh, a more complete liquid mesh. The Lab added some bones and made other existing bones accessible for weighting and animation and did some slider work. The modifications were completed in early 2014. This lead to what we have now (2017): Fitted Mesh, that works with most of the shape sliders.

And so on. I'm continually fascinating by how Second Life the company both collaborates and conflicts with Second Life the community.
