Facebook's Rooms, VR Social Space Co-Developed by Linden Lab Alum, Launches

The new generation of VR is starting to get social, and Linden Lab alum are helping lead that charge: Facebook's "Rooms" virtual chatroom for friends just launched for Gear VR, and one of the lead developers was once a lead developer of Second Life: Jim "Babbage Linden" Purbrick, who left Linden on a longboard in 2010. He was hired to Facebook by Second Life co-founder Cory Ondrejka, until last year a top Facebook exec who led the company's purchase of Oculus. It's good that Jim is helping lead social VR at Facebook, because all the social problems SL faced 10 years ago are about to be repeated in this generation.
